George A. Sakolish Jr., a retired mail carrier, died Tuesday in the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Cheektowaga, after a lengthy illness. He was 71.
Born in Wilkes Barre, Pa., Mr. Sakolish moved to this area as a child and graduated from Amherst High School.
A longtime resident of the City of Tonawanda, he worked 27 years as a mail carrier, retiring in 1992. For several years, Mr. Sakolish's mail route was in Williamsville.
After retirement, he worked part time in the mail rooms of various banks. He enjoyed being a handyman around his home and those of friends.
Mr. Sakolish was a parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in the City of Tonawanda.
Survivors include his fiancee, Donna Fischer of the City of Tonawanda, and two sons, Scott and Craig.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Broad Street at Clinton Park.
