FUNDS RAISED TO BUY CENTRAL TERMINAL CLOCK

The four-faced clock that was a fixture in the Central Terminal is returning to Buffalo.

A two-week fund-raising campaign by WBEN that raised $11,000 from 230 contributors, along with a portion of an M&T Bank Foundation grant, will allow the art deco clock to be purchased for $25,000 from an architectural salvage store in Chicago.

The M&T Bank Foundation grant will include an additional $11,000 for the clock's preservation, restoration, display and insurance. The American Watch and Clock Association has agreed to repair the clock at no cost, and offers have come in to transport the clock back to Buffalo at no expense, according to Russell Pawlak, president of the Central Terminal Restoration Corp.

Once ready for exhibit, the clock is expected to be displayed around the city.
