Albert Eugene "Casper" Young, a bakery co-owner and bank worker, died last Wednesday in his Cheektowaga home following a long illness. He was 44.
Born and raised in Buffalo, Mr. Young was a graduate of Riverside High School and attended Bryant & Stratton Business Institute.
He was a baker and co-owner of Albert Young & Sons Cakes For All Occasions, on Hertel Avenue in North Buffalo, from 1983 until his death. He also worked as an installment loan associate for Fleet Bank, now Bank of America, since 2000.
Mr. Young, a singer, keyboard player and songwriter, was passionate about music. A member of the Young Tabernacle Holiness Church in Buffalo, he was very involved in the church music program, serving as organist for many years. He was honored by the church last spring for his outstanding service as "Minister of Music."
He also loved telling stories and writing stories for children.
Survivors include his wife, the former Elizabeth Gonzalez; three sons, Damian, David and Jose, all of Cheektowaga; his parents, Albert and the Rev. L. Jean Young of Buffalo; two brothers, Aaron of Los Angeles and Joseph of Buffalo; and his grandparents, the Rev. Joseph and Lula Beecher of Buffalo.
A memorial service, featuring music written by Mr. Young, will be held at 5 p.m. Friday in Young Tabernacle Holiness Church, 623 Best St. Burial plans were incomplete.
