Hires/Promotions/Honors
The Greater Niagara Frontier Council of the Boy Scouts of America honored Dr. Robert P. Gatewood Jr. with the 2004 Good Scout Award for Health and Fitness in recognition of his exemplary record of service and high standing within the community. Dr. Gatewood is a clinical associate professor at the University at Buffalo and currently serves as president and chief medical officer of Buffalo Cardiology and Pulmonary Associates. Dr. Gatewood will accept the award at the Good Scout Luncheon, chaired by Edward Voboril, president and CEO of Wilson Greatbatch Technologies, in December.

Northwood University honored Lauren J. Fix with its annual Automotive Aftermarket Education Award recently in Las Vegas. The award recognizes leaders for their contributions to the education process in the automotive aftermarket field. Fix is owner and president of Automotive Aspects, a Lancaster consulting firm providing media and broadcast strategy services, president and director of Classic Tube and the co-host of a talk show on the Do-It Yourself Network which offers demonstrations and tips on auto repair.

Company items
Algonquin Studios, a Buffalo-based Web and software solutions company, will provide technology services and operational support to Coldwell Banker Poland. In June 2004, the company contracted with Coldwell Banker Europe to provide services to its master franchises and real estate offices in Europe. The training for the management team from Poland is expected to begin in November in Buffalo.

Pepsi Bottling Group signed a seven-year agreement with the Niagara University Athletic Department to become a corporate partner. The agreement gives PBG exclusive vending, retail and pouring rights at the Dwyer Arena, the Gallagher Center and all university locations.

Flynn and Friends, a Buffalo advertising agency, produced a video to help Cornerstone Manor, the Buffalo City Mission's division for women and children, raise funds for its $2.65 million capital campaign. The campaign's purpose is to fund the construction and start up costs of Cornerstone's new facility to be built at the corner of North and Michigan, allowing the shelter to serve twice as many women and children for longer periods of time. The agency also developed the name of the capital campaign, "Turning the Corner: The Campaign for the New Cornerstone Manor," as well as collateral materials, including a logo, letterhead and business cards.

Contributing
Target Stores awarded a $1,000 grant to Buffalo Hearing and Speech Center in support of the center's Preliteracy Lending Library.

The Erie County Legislature awarded $500 to Junior Achievement of WNY. The funding, secured through Erie County Legislator Timothy M. Wroblewski, will help to provide necessary program materials and to recruit and train business volunteers to present the programs to West Seneca students during the 2004-2005 school year.
