To lose 63 pounds, Christian Bale stopped eating and kept on moving.
Normally weighing in at 185 pounds, the actor adhered to a fairly uncomplicated weight-loss regimen for the movie "The Machinist." He ignored food and ramped up his fat-burning power by running.
"I didn't look at the script and think, 'Oh my God, I get a chance to lose weight for this movie. Yes!'" Bale told the San Francisco Chronicle. "That would have been moronic. It was a matter of me liking the script so much that I wanted to achieve what I felt was necessary."
In "The Machinist," Bale plays Trevor Reznik, a paranoid, forgetful, guilt-ridden factory worker who is beset by hallucinations because he hasn't slept for a year.
"I eventually hit a point where the running wasn't working anymore," he said. "It was more like stumbling -- the legs had atrophied to such an extent they looked comical."
Lose the cameras ...
Rock star Ozzy Osbourne has said his family will not make any more episodes of reality TV show "The Osbournes."
"At the end of it I didn't like having cameras around the house all the time," the Black Sabbath singer told reporters at the MTV Europe Awards in Rome.
His wife, Sharon, who also appears in the popular MTV show based on the Osbournes' family life, agreed.
"Now everybody's doing reality shows. He's done it, he's been there, he's got to do something else," she said.
Ozzy Osbourne was at a loss to explain the show's popularity: "I suppose Americans get a kick out of watching a crazy Brit family like us make complete fools of ourselves every week."
A modest refusal ...
Brad Pitt turned down the chance to star in critical chat show "Inside the Actors Studio" because he doesn't think he's experienced enough.
The modest Pitt was invited by host James Lipton to review his film career and discuss his acting methods on the Bravo program, when his blockbuster "Troy" came out this summer. According to Pagesix.Com, Pitt said that he didn't have a "sufficient body of work."
Pitt needn't have worried about his 27-movie portfolio: Recent Studio guests include Natalie Portman, who has 14 movies to her name and Jennifer Lopez, with 16.
Public confessions ...
R&B superstar Usher and supermodel Naomi Campbell were all lovey-dovey at the MTV Europe Awards, making their relationship public for the first time, reports Ananova.com.
The celebrity couple arrived arm-in-arm at the Thursday night bash in Rome.
The pair have hardly been seen outside their hotel suite, but looked very much a superstar item at swanky preshow and post-show parties.
"I'm having an amazing time -- I love Italy. But I'm trying not to eat too much because it makes me too sleepy," Campbell said.
Usher -- who picked up the Best Male award and the Best Album award -- was sporting a $180,000 gold chain around his neck. British beauty Jamelia wasn't too impressed with the American singer's bling factor, however.
"That's so stupid!" she said. "You should buy a house, rent it out and invest it."
