Merain H. Caldwell, 64, of Buffalo, a homemaker, died Nov. 16 in Erie County Medical Center following a long illness.
Born Merain Hartley in Pensacola, Fla., she moved to Buffalo in 1959.
She was a member of J.W. Loguen A.M.E. Zion Church, as well as the Women's Home and Overseas Missionary Society, for more than 30 years, and the Ladies Auxiliary of Bennett Wells Post 1780, American Legion.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard L.; two daughters, Deborah R. and Beverly A., both of Buffalo; two sons, Jeffrey H. Caldwell of Gulfport, Miss., and Albert Ellis III of Barstow, Calif.; seven sisters, Geneva Copeland, Margaret Bess, Georgia Mae Rivers, Mary Morgan and Deloris Johnson, all of Pensacola, and Rosa Long and Juanita Forbes, both of Rochester; five brothers, William and James Hartley, both of Buffalo, Harvey Johnson Jr., Samuel Johnson and Lindell Johnson, all of Pensacola; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held in J.W. Loguen Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 1301 Genesee St. Burial was in Forest Lawn.
