The WNY chapter of the National Football Foundation will hold its fifth annual scholar-athlete awards dinner on Dec. 8 at Ilio DiPaolo's Restaurant in Blasdell.

A college football player from each of three local colleges and the top high school scholar-athletes representing the Monsignor Martin Association, Harvard Cup and Section VI will be honored. The guest speaker will be former Buffalo Bills' safety Mark Kelso, an academic All-American during his collegiate days at William & Mary.

The event starts at 6 p.m. with a cash bar reception followed by dinner at 7:15. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. For information and reservations call Chuck Funke (655-1473) or Denny Lynch (648-0316).

A benefit for Bill Dixon, wrestling coach at Niagara-Wheatfield, will be held Dec. 3 at the American Legion Hall, 6525 Ward Road, Sanborn starting at 6 p.m. Dixon is suffering from cancer of the liver and pancreas.

BASEBALL: The University at Buffalo team will host two clinics next month, one for children ages 7-12 on Dec. 26-27 from 1 to 4 p.m. and one for ages 13-17 on Dec. 27-28 from 9 a.m. to noon. The sessions will be held at Alumni Arena on the UB's North Campus. The price is $55. Contact assistant coach Ron Torgalski at 645-6834.

HOCKEY: The Pepsi Kids beginner instruction program for boys and girls ages 4-8 will start Dec. 12 at Leisure Rinks in Orchard Park. The seven-session program will be held on Sundays for skaters with limited experience and will feature instruction as well as scrimmage game situations. If needed, the rink will provide skates and a helmet with cage at no extra charge for the first few sessions. The cost is $65. The program serves as preparation for the Pepsi Kids Beginner League which begins in February. Call 685-3660 or register online at www.holidayrinks.

SOCCER: The Niagara PALO Soccer Club will hold its ninth annual free roller skating party at 5 p.m. on Saturday at Rainbow Roller Rink, 101 Oliver St., North Tonawanda. The affair is open to all Niagara PAL club Travel, Dee De's and Fall League players and family. Registration will be available for the Buffalo & WNY Junior Soccer League. Call 283-7715.

STREET HOCKEY: The West Side Street Hockey League is now forming for the 2004-05 season for youngsters 8 to 16. This is not a rollerblade program. Cll Tovie Asarese at 885-7692. All games played in Asarese-Matters Recreation Center, Grant and Bradley Streets.
