A city man was shot in the thigh early Sunday as a large crowd gathered in the 1300 block of Niagara Street, police said.
The victim, whose name was not released by authorities, was transported to Erie County Medical Center, where he underwent surgery Sunday afternoon. His wounds were not considered life-threatening.
Detective Capt. Ernest Palmer said the man was shot about 4 a.m. There was a crowd of 200 to 300 people in the area, he said, "but no one came forward with any information."
Palmer said that a restaurant in the block, the Taste of the South, has become a popular location after the bars close and that problems have been mounting in the area on recent weekends.
About 5:30 a.m. Sunday, violence erupted in the 1700 block of Pine Avenue, a carry-over of an earlier incident at the restaurant, police were told.
A 25th Street woman reported that a car pulled alongside hers as she drove and that someone reached out with a baseball bat and smashed her windshield. Damage to her car was estimated at $350. She was advised to seek an arrest warrant.
