DOLORES MACCARONE, KNOWN FOR HER COOKING
JAN. 4, 1931 -- NOV. 20, 2004

Dolores M. "Lorie" Maccarone, of Depew, died Saturday in Greenfield Nursing Home, Depew, after a long illness. She was 73.

Born Dolores Helms, she was reared in Buffalo and attended South Park High School.

Mrs. Maccarone was known for her cooking, and enjoyed putting together big family dinners. She was also an active part of her grandchildren's lives, never missing a game, concert or school event.

A skilled bowler, she earned many trophies. She also enjoyed playing golf.

Mrs. Maccarone was a member of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Depew. She also was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of Depew Hose Company No. 1.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years, retired Depew Police Chief John T. Maccarone; a daughter, Linda Van Nortwick of Lancaster; three sisters, Peggy Kittleson of Depew, and Ann Newman and Carol Bartoszek, both of Lancaster; two brothers, John Helms of Fort Myers, Fla., and James Helms of Lockport; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 French Road, Depew, after prayers at 8:45 in Amigone Funeral Home, 6050 Transit Road. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lancaster.
