Gaines Kriner Elliott, a Buffalo accounting and consulting firm, promoted Alan L. Zak to firm principal. A graduate of the University at Buffalo, Zak has more than 18 years of accounting experience and is the firm's team leader on audits, reviews and compilations. In addition, he has extensive experience in the construction, distribution and manufacturing industries and serves as the leader of the firm's construction industry team and asset-based lending field examinations services.

Cingular Wireless named Craig Edgar vice president and general manager of Cingular Wireless -- New York State. Edgar previously was vice president of sales for AT&T Wireless in Connecticut and Upstate New York before the recent merger of Cingular and AT&T Wireless. Edgar will be based in the company's regional headquarters in Buffalo.

PETCO Animal Supplies appointed Holly Donofrio district manager for District 47. Donofrio will be responsible for 12 stores including locations in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany and Elmira. Most recently, Donofrio worked for Jo-Ann Stores in various positions such as general manager, training coordinator and district manager.

The Orchard Park Chamber of Commerce installed Brendan Biggane of Zebb's Deluxe Grill and Bar president for 2005. Other officers: President-elect, Marilyn Heim, Wyoming County Bank; vice president/treasurer, Don Lorentz, Orchard Park High School; vice president, Jane Jewell, Noonan and Jewell. North American Health Plans, an Amherst health claims administrator, promoted Christy Stephenson to director of human resources. A graduate of Canisius College, Stephenson joined the agency in 2001 and most recently served as manager of Human Resources. Also, the agency named Kevin Dale sales representative for the state of Ohio and Christopher Blust a marketing representative.

Sanderson and Company, a Buffalo investment consulting and accounting firm, named John T. O'Brien tax manager. O'Brien specializes in tax planning and compliance for privately owned corporations as well as estate planning and trust administration. A graduate of Canisius College, O'Brien most recently served as chief financial officer for a multifranchise auto dealer.

Medaille College appointed Charles Gradowski vice president for business and finance management. Gradowski will serve as the chief financial officer for the college. Most recently, Gradowski was a consultant for nonprofit and education institutions, including Medaille,and formerly he was chief financial officer for the Argosy Education Group.

Trocaire College elected George J. Eberl of Eberl Iron Works, chair, and Michael M. Reilly of HealthTrac, vice chair, of its board of trustees for one-year terms. Members elected to a three-year term: Dr. Mary K. Bennett, University at Buffalo; Cheryl A. Howe, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York; Stephen J. St. Joseph Hospital Urology Department chairman Dr. Datta G. Wagle was elected to the National Board of American Urological Association. Dr. Wagle, a senior partner at Main Urology Associates, also serves as the chief of Urology at Sisters of Charity and is a board member of the Catholic Health System and St. Joseph Hospital Foundation.

Nextel Partners, a digital wireless service provider, named Chris Vattimo general manager at the Cheektowaga office. Vattimo, who has 18 years of sales experience and 8 years in the wireless communications industry, most recently served as direct sales manager for the company.

The Western New York/Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of The National Multiple Sclerosis Society named Deborah DiMatteo of M&T Bank and Gary Schober of Hodgson Russ co-chairs of its board of trustees. Other officers: Vice chair, James Segarra; treasurer, Cameron McLachlan and secretary, Paul DePlato. Members: Kathy Campagna, William Kowalski and Richard Carrara.

The accounting firm of Buffamante Whipple Buttafaro promoted Doris Godfrey, a CPA, to manager of the Jamestown office.
