The East Concord Fire Department has raised $2,200 so far for the stepson and two unborn children of Spc. Brian K. Baker, the Springville native killed in Iraq on Nov. 7. And his family has scheduled a local memorial service for him next week.

Friends and colleagues in the East Concord Fire Department set up the Brian K. Baker Children's Fund. Donations may be sent to the fire department, at 9413 Genesee Road, East Concord, NY 14055.

"We want to make sure that his children are taken care of," Fire Chief Matthew Willibey said. "We want to take care of our own. If we can't take care of our own, we shouldn't be taking care of anyone else."

Baker, who was killed in an explosion in Baghdad, was buried in Midland, Texas, a site chosen primarily so that his stepson, Coletin, 4, and his unborn twin daughters will be able to visit his grave.

A local memorial service has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Nov. 27 in St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Springville.
