Services for David L. Markel, former president of a family electric and heating firm, were held today in Temple Beth Zion. Burial was in Forest Lawn.
He died Monday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. He was 90.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Markel earned his bachelor's degree from Ohio State University.
He then joined Markel Electric, the company founded by his father, Joseph, in the 1920s. For many years, it was on Seneca Street in South Buffalo before relocating to Amherst Street in North Buffalo.
Mr. Markel eventually became president and served in that capacity until he retired in 1978.
He moved to Williamsville in 1984.
Mr. Markel was a member of Temple Beth Zion. He enjoyed golfing and was described by those close to him as a devoted family man.
His first wife, Betty Setron Markel, died in 1991.
He is survived by his wife, the former Gertrude Cohen; three daughters, Nan of Stanford, Conn., Virginia Rollefson of Middletown, Conn., and Jacqueline of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a brother, Morris of Buffalo; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
