Daniel C. Drescher, a decorated U.S. Navy pilot who served in World War II and Korea, died Sunday in Erie County Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was 78.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Drescher graduated from Canisius High School and was a former superintendent for Anaconda Brass, Buffalo.
His naval career began in 1941 during World War II. He served during the D-Day invasion of Normandy. He also served during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953.
Military awards include Gold Navy Wings, Distinguished Service Medal, three Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. Surviving are his wife, the former Nancy Brewster.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered today in St. Mary Queen of the Rosary Catholic Church, Strykersville. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
