Brock University of St. Catharines, Ont., shot 75 per cent (15 of 20) in the second half and 62.5 overall Monday night in an 83-73 victory over Canisius in a college basketball exhibition game at the Koessler Center.

The visitors led, 39-31, at halftime, then made 7 of 9 three-point shots in the second half to hold off the Griffs.

Four Canisius players scored in double figures -- Kevin Downey (18), freshman Rigoberto Sargeant (17), Dewitt Doss (15) and Darnell Wilson (10). Kevin French led Brock with 26 points.

FOOTBALL: Junior linebacker Bryan Cummings of the University at Buffalo was honored as the Mid-American Conference East Division Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Bulls' 36-6 win over Central Michigan. Cummings blocked a punt that was returned by teammate Gabe McClover for a touchdown, On defense, Cummings recorded six tackles, two for losses and 1 1/2 sacks.

Two UB junior defensive linemen, Bill Meholif and Aaron Sanders (St. Joe's) were selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) to the District I Academic All-America team.

Meholif has a 3.70 GPA as a finance major. Sanders has posted a 3.55 GPA in marketing. Sanders leads UB defensive linemen with 44 tackles and has 5 1/2 sacks. Meholif ranks second among Bulls defensive linemen with 31 tackles.

MEN'S HOCKEY: Canisius goalie Bryan Worosz was named Player of the Week in Atlantic Hockey after he became the Griffs' all-time saves leader when he stopped 34 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss to Sacred Heart and followed it with a 17-save performance in 4-1 win over Sacred Heart. . . . Niagara goalie Scott Mollison was named College Hockey America Rookie of thew Week after making 50 saves overall in a weekend sweep of Quinnipiac. . . . Fredonia State (6-1-1, 4-0-0 in SUNYAC) was ranked in 12th place in the most recent Top 15 Division III poll. Goalie Rick Cazares was named SUNYAC Goaltender of the Week for the second week in a row. Sophomore Matt Zeman continues to lead NCAA Division III with points (19) and assists (12). The Blue Devils play at Buffalo State on Wednesday.
