BUFFALO REGION ALREADY HAS GREAT CARDIOTHORACIC SURGEON

A Nov. 5 article in The News announced the recruitment of a heart surgeon from Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. It stated that the Buffalo region has not had such a surgeon who specializes in aortic aneurysm surgeries.

I beg to differ with this report. John Bell-Thomson, M.D., is an outstanding cardio-thoracic surgeon on the staff at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo. He is also on staff at the Cleveland Clinic.

In 2003, he performed two surgeries on my husband -- the first a heart bypass and the second the removal of a large aortic aneurysm just behind the heart. We are totally indebted to this fine physician for saving my husband's life. Bell-Thomson is highly regarded at ECMC by staff and patients alike.
