St. Mary's girls volleyball team more than evened the score with Nardin Sunday, defeating the Gators in a five-set match to win the State Catholic Championship at Hofstra University in Hempstead.

Trailing, 2-1, in games, the Lancers came back to win the final two games, 25-17 and 25-7 for the title over an opponent they had lost to in the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association finals. The teams had split a pair of matches during the regular season.

Katie Schaller had 24 kills, 10 in the final game, to lead the Lancers. Jacquie Slagor served six straight points, including three aces, to get St. Mary's to match point in the final game. Rebecca Suchy (10 kills) Stephanie Kramer (22 assists), Jamie Kramer (nine blocks) and Carly McNeill (nine kills) also contributed to the winning effort for the Lancers (18-3).

In the semifinals, St. Mary's beat Holy Trinity of Rockville Centre, 25-20, 25-21, 18-25, 8-25, 25-20.
