As a constituent, I am outraged by County Executive Joel Giambra's arrogant, unilateral approach to the Medicaid crisis. I resent his scare tactics in holding vital public services hostage against his personal agenda with Albany and Medicaid.
I agree with the County Legislature majority leader that this is not governing. I urge all legislators to pursue an aggressive plan to mediate all aspects of this crisis, and to draft a budget that calls for rational compromise cuts that allow reasonable levels of service. This plan might have to consider sharing any increased tax revenue with all municipalities in Erie County.
If we want people to live and invest in Erie County, we must sustain and enhance our public libraries, cultural institutions and social services initiatives.
