GRANT ALLOWS EXPANSION OF PENN DIXIE CENTER

The Penn Dixie site will be expanding, thanks to a $30,000 grant to buy 16.75 acres of land that will adjoin the western and southern boundaries of the Penn Dixie Paleontological and Outdoor Education Center in Hamburg.

The East Hill Foundation of Williamsville, a private family foundation founded in 1986, is providing the grant to the Hamburg Natural History Society.

Officials said the purchase will permit further developing of the site for programs, expanding the barrier-free nature trail system and providing a link from the bicycle trail to the Route 5 Seaway Trail system.

The site is a tourist attraction that provides programs in fossil collecting, geology, astronomy, birding and a variety of other activities in natural science.
