Buffalo housing police arrested a man today for allegedly trying to break into his ex-girlfriend's Fulton Street apartment and possessing 10 bags of crack cocaine and one bag of marijuana, police said.
Derrick R. Norman, 21, of Moselle Street, was charged with attempted burglary, possession of burglar's tools, unlawful possession of marijuana, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal mischief.
Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority Officers Daniel Kurdziel and Bart Adams were responding to a complaint of a threat at about 9:10 a.m. when they said they observed Norman using a screwdriver to try to remove the lock on his former girlfriend's door in the 300 block of Fulton.
Adams and Kurdziel recovered the crack cocaine -- more than 500 milligrams -- from inside the suspect's right glove and the marijuana and screwdriver from his coat pockets. Officers estimated damage to the door at more then $250.
