CLASS ACT
AN OUTSTANDING YOUNG WESTERN NEW YORKER

Kristie Wind is committed to helping young Catholic children in Clarence.

She teaches religious education to kindergarten-aged kids at Our Lady of Peace Church. She teaches two, one-hour sessions every Sunday throughout the school year.

"I do it because it's what I love to do," she adds, "giving back to the community."

Additionally, and again at the church, Wind, 19, of Lancaster, volunteers her time to run both the Christmas pageant and summer Bible school. For the pageant, she writes a play based on Bible stories, then recruits children and directs them in this play. That's no easy task.

She also is responsible for the planning and implementation of the summer Bible school for children ages 3 to 12. She gathers other teenagers to work with these kids in teaching them Bible stories, and completing projects and arts-and-crafts based on these stories.

She is also a Girl Scout leader.

Even though she attends the University at Buffalo full time, she believes it's important to carve out the hours for these extra activities to enrich girls and boys.
