Lawrence J. Sczesniak Sr., a New York Central Railroad worker, died Tuesday in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a brief illness. He was 78.
Mr. Sczesniak was born in Niagara Falls, where he attended school.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946 and was a member of Post 917, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He worked for the New York Central Railroad from 1942, interrupted by Army service, until his retirement in 1988.
Mr. Sczesniak married Teresa Montgomery in 1951.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, his grandchildren and going fishing.
Besides his wife, survivors include three daughters, Catherine Martel of Bradenton, Fla., and Lorraine Aswad and Teresa, both of Niagara Falls; a son, Lawrence Jr., of Bradenton; a brother, John Sesnick of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Helen Lee of Niagara Falls and Sophie Kelley of Williamsport, Pa.; and three grandchildren.
Private services will be scheduled in Lane Funeral Home, 8622 Buffalo Ave., Niagara Falls.
