BURGLARY NETS UP TO LIFE FOR PERSISTENT FELON, 44

A Cambridge Avenue man was sentenced to 25 years to life Friday after he was found to be a "persistent violent felony offender" following his conviction in an August 2003 Humboldt Avenue home invasion.

Carl McClelland, 44, was convicted by a jury Aug. 5 of second-degree burglary, possession of stolen property and possession of burglar's tools.

He was arrested Aug. 15, 2003, while bicycling from the Humboldt Avenue crime scene with two bags of stolen property.

McClelland, also known as Willie White, was subject to being classified as a persistent violent felony offender because of two prior sex crime convictions.
