WRONG-WAY VEHICLE SPARKS BRIDGE COLLISION

A motorist traveling the wrong way on Interstate 86 caused a two-vehicle crash Thursday on the Chautauqua County Veterans Bridge, state troopers reported.

Troopers said Patrick T. Green, no age or address given, was heading east on the highway at about 9:30 a.m. when a vehicle operated by David L. Goodworth, no age or address given, collided with Green's vehicle. Goodworth was westbound in the eastbound lane, troopers said.

As the vehicles approached the crest at the midpoint of the bridge, both drivers swerved to avoid a collision, and the vehicles sideswiped each other, according to reports from Troopers David A. Sena and Kevin J. Wozniak.

Goodworth was issued citations for driving on the wrong side of the road and for an equipment violation related to the vehicle's tires.

Green was cited for unlicensed operation, operating with a suspended registration and driving without insurance.

No injuries were reported.
