A wake for Shirley Mary Scott was held today, followed by a service in St. John Baptist Church, 184 Goodell St. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery, Hamburg.
Mrs. Scott, a longtime Buffalo resident, died Sunday in Mercy Hospital after a long illness. She was 68.
Born Shirley Littles in Willeston, S.C., she came to Buffalo in the 1940s. She attended St. Mary's School and Girls Vocational Technical School.
Mrs. Scott worked in a variety of jobs, including bartending, home health care and housekeeping. She left the work force due to illness in 2002.
Her husband, Eugene, died in 1997.
She is survived by five daughters, Joyce Thomas, Jean Thomas and Denise, all of Buffalo, Joan Robinson of Lackawanna and Susan Carr of Linesville, Pa.; three sons, Lamar Elliott and Terry Elliott, both of Buffalo, and Aubrey Walton of Lackawanna; two sisters, Catherine Saunders of Los Angeles and Joyce Rivera of Buffalo; 28 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
