MONTANARO PACES DAEMEN

Brian Montanaro's 19 points led five Daemen scorers in double figures in an 84-70 men's basketball victory over visiting Wilfrid-Laurier on Thursday.

The other top producers for the Wildcats (3-0) were Darnell Jackson (16), Kharmen Wingard (15), Therreon Blackwell (12) and Joe Olsen (10). Ron Wright grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Wilfrid-Laurier's Andrew McKay led all scorers with 20 points.

MEN'S HOCKEY: Forward Tim Kennedy (Timon/St. Jude) has signed a national letter of intent to play hockey at Michigan State. Kennedy is in his second season with Sioux City of the United States Hockey League. . . . Buffalo State forward Mike DeMarco (Niagara Falls) was named SUNYAC Player of the Week after he tallied four goals and two assists in the last two games.

MEN'S SOCCER: St. Bonaventure's Andy Garcia was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Conference first team. Teammate Kevin Omokhua made the second team. . . . Fabien Lewis and Chris Robery of Canisius and Mark Spooner of Niagara were named to the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference second team.

WOMEN'S HOCKEY: Niagara goaltenders Allison Rutledge and Nikki Rudy were honored by College Hockey America. Rutledge was named Defensive Player of the Week after she stopped 48 shots in a 2-2 tie with Mercyhurst. Rudy was named Rookie of the Week after she stopped 45 of 46 shots in a loss to Mercyhurst.

CROSS COUNTRY: Four UB runners were named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference. Ben Cady (City Honors) earned a spot on the men's team while Jenny Koeppel (Amherst), Jennie Donofrio and Jen Jezorski made the women's team.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Daemen players Nicole Kuslik (Sweet Home) and Kristie Martzolf (Lancaster) were named first-team All-American Mideast Conference, North Division.
