A memorial service for Niagara Falls resident John A. Willard, a decorated Vietnam War veteran, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Post 54, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 2772 Main St. Burial will be in Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery, with military honors.
Mr. Willard died unexpectedly Oct. 23 in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was 55.
He was born in Rochester, N.H., and moved to Niagara Falls after his military service. He served with the Marine Corps from 1969 until his honorable discharge in 1971. He was severely wounded while fighting in Vietnam and was awarded a the Purple Heart.
He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts 54 and 917; a member of the Lt. John Paul Bobo Detachment No. 1118, Marine Corps League; and a member of the Military Order of Devil Dogs.
Mr. Willard is survived by his wife, the former Deborah Crutts of Niagara Falls; a son, John A. Jr., of Connecticut; two daughters, Tiffany Grimaldi and Brandi Grimaldi, both of Niagara Falls; two sisters, Sally A. Roberts of Summerville, S.C., and Linda A. Palombo of San Antonio, Texas; and a grandson.
