Free carbon monoxide detectors will be given out to eligible Cheektowaga residents this month.
About 500 detectors will be distributed to homeowners who meet the federal income guidelines by the Cheektowaga Community Development Office. This is the first phase of a campaign to ensure that all homes are equipped with the device.
Applications are available at the Community Development Office in the Alexander Community Center, 275 Alexander St., or by calling 961-6607. Applications and supporting income documentation will be reviewed by Community Development staff at the Alexander Community Center at the following times: from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, next Wednesday, Nov. 18 and 23 and from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 22.
Maximum income eligibility levels are: one person, $30,000; two people, $34,300; three people, $38,600; four people, $42,900; five people, $46,300; six people, $49,750; seven people, $53,150; and eight people, $56,600.
The carbon monoxide detectors will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
The program is funded with federal community development block grant funds.
