Frank J. Bermel Sr. of the Town of Tonawanda, a retired Linde Air Corp. employee, died Monday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Town of Tonawanda, after a long illness. He was 78.
Born in Buffalo, he graduated from McKinley High School.
For 35 years, he was a welder and inspector for Linde, retiring in 1988. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Bermel was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church; Post 1041, American Legion; and the Ensminger Road Senior Center.
His wife of 51 years, Wilma Clark Bermel, died in 2002.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Koller of the Town of Tonawanda and Janice Cipolla of Kenmore; two sons, Frank J. Jr. of Alden and David of North Carolina; two sisters, Patsy Mruk of West Seneca and Marcia Little of Grand Island; and eight grandchildren.
Prayers will be said at 9 a.m. Friday in Amigone Funeral Home, 2600 Sheridan Drive, Town of Tonawanda, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Elizabeth's Church, 986 Grant St. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
