HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL GAMES TO BE ON TV

Fans of the Fredonia Hillbillies boys basketball team are in for a treat this season. Beginning Dec. 1, each home game will be televised on the local public access cable channel.

The broadcast was announced by High School Principal Todd Crandall at Tuesday night's Fredonia Central School District Board of Education meeting. Following the meeting, Crandall said he is looking for volunteers to assist with the cameras, audio and announcing of other sports. He said the district is focusing on sports right now, but there are plans to someday televise school plays and concerts.

Superintendent of Schools Paul DiFonzo read a petition, signed by 200, from the Share and Care senior citizens group urging the board to transfer the Eagle Street School building to the Town of Pomfret as lead agency for the Share and Care Senior Center. The senior group has been using the Eagle Street building for 10 years. The school district wants to relieve itself of the cost of operating the former school building. DiFonzo said the board is considering several options including turning the building over to the town and finding a buyer who would still lease to the senior group.

DiFonzo said the board would have a decision on what to do with the building by Jan. 1.
