A 22-year-old Marine from Olean was arrested Sunday for alleged military desertion, according to the Cattaraugus County sheriff's office.
Lance Cpl. Shane R. Miller had been wanted by the Marine Corps on a desertion charge, according to police, who said he had been stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Deputies said they were checking on a suspicious vehicle that was in the parking lot of D&F Travel, Route 417, about 12:43 a.m. when they found Miller in the car.
Miller was arraigned Sunday in Town of Portville Court on a charge of being a fugitive from justice. He was being held without bail in Cattaraugus County Jail, where he will remain before being picked up by the Marine Corps.
Further information was not immediately available.
Miller was attached to 2nd Force Service Support Group, or FSSG, which provides the major sources of heavy combat service support for the 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, and the command element of II Marine Expeditionary Force, according to a Camp Lejeune Web site. The 2nd FSSG comprises more that 480 officers and 7,400 Marines and sailors.
