Niagara County Manager Gregory D. Lewis said he will make a recommendation Dec. 14 on whether Mount View Health Facility should be sold for $2 million to an Amherst company.

Lewis said he will tell the County Legislature's Community Services Committee whether to seek new bids on the nursing home or negotiate with Senior Associates, the only bidder that responded in the first round.

"We know there's one firm that missed the deadline, so we know if we went back out to bid we'd get at least one more proposal," he noted.

Lewis said he and an internal committee will meet later this month with Senior Associates, which owns Fairchild Manor Nursing Home in Lewiston and Batavia Nursing Home.

"We need more definitiveness from them on what their plan is," he said. He said he wants to know whether the company plans to meet the county's wishes to keep Mount View open to Medicaid clients and to retain as much of the work force as possible.

On June 15, the Legislature voted to close Mount View, licensed for 172 beds, in one year if it had not been sold.
