OCTOBER MADE THE USUAL CHANGES

Early warmth and sunshine in October was followed by a period of more seasonable temperatures and cloudiness.

The warmest days, with temperatures in the mid-60s to mid-70s, were accompanied by mostly sunny skies on the 1st, 3rd and the 6th through the 8th.

A midmonth change in the weather pattern led to cooler temperatures and more precipitation, including a record 1.33 inches on the 16th.

A trace of snow from that lake-effect rainstorm was recorded at Buffalo Niagara International Airport, and as much as 2 to 4 inches of snow fell east of the city in Alden and Darien Center.

Temperatures ran above the seasonable average the last 10 days of the month, leaving the overall monthly average of 51.6 degrees, nearly a degree above normal.

Just 35 percent of the available sunshine was recorded, well below the monthly average of 50 percent.
