Gay & Lesbian Youth Services (GLYS) will honor Paul J. Michaels at its 21st anniversary fund-raising GAYLA Nov. 18 in the Golden Ballroom of Statler Towers. A cocktail reception at 6 p.m. will precede dinner.
Michaels, owner of Aurum Jewelers, served two terms on the GLYS board of directors and was chairman of the GAYLA from 1998-2003, during which time attendance tripled from what originally was an annual meeting and the Mack Fund for the Future was established.
Event chairwomen are Linda L. Marsh, a board vice president and an attorney, and Alice Hillery Sullivan, a board member who recently retired from Buffalo State College Weigel Health Center.
Honorary chairmen are Lana and Howard Benatovich. She, as executive director of Western New York Region of National Conference for Community and Justice, will receive the GLYS Friendship Award for the region's programs in area schools that include gay and lesbian students' issues. Mary Callaghan, a former board member, will receive the Robert Uplinger Community Service Award.
Monday is the deadline for purchasing tickets, which are $50. For tickets and information, call Marvin L. Henchbarger, executive director, at 855-0221 or e-mail Kinsey6XX@aol.com.
