The City of Buffalo Youth Bureau and West Side Community Services are sponsoring a Youth Empowerment Conference Saturday for all city youngsters 11 to 16 years old.

Sponsors say the combination of workshops and entertainment is designed to give young people the skills they need to make the right choices in life. Workshop topics range from "Being in a Gang Ain't Cool" and the "Theory of Hip-Hop" to how to develop peer mediation and community leadership skills.

Entertainment will include dancers, musicians and theater. The featured speakers will be Community Services Commissioner Donald O. Allen, Niagara Council Member Dominic J. Bonifacio Jr. and Oswaldo Mestre, director of Weed and Seed.

The conference will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at West Side Community Services, 161 Vermont St.

Free pizza and soda will be provided for lunch.
