The Southern Christian Leadership Conference's executive committee has suspended the civil rights organization's president and chairman.
No reason was given for the action against the Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth, president, and Claud Young, chairman. No official of the organization would say how long the suspensions would last.
Last month, Shuttlesworth tried to fire the Rev. Randel Osburn, a high-ranking official who was recovering from cancer. The board quickly reinstated Osburn, a cousin of Coretta Scott King.
The organization has experienced a power struggle since Martin Luther King III, son of founder Martin Luther King Jr., resigned as president a year ago.
