A burglar who entered the Richmond Avenue apartment of a sleeping woman early Friday morning woke her up by choking her, but she chased him down the stairs and out of the house.

The burglar, an unknown man believed to be in his 20s, broke a pane of glass on the front door to enter the house at about 2:15 a.m. After entering the vacant apartment downstairs, he went upstairs, where he placed his hands around the woman's neck and woke her up, she told Central District police.

The woman suffered some neck pain and some scratches on her arms. She was unsure whether anything was taken from the house, on Richmond near Bryant Street.
