Services will be held today for Giovanni "John" Aguglia, a retired carpenter, who died Friday in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was 91.
Mr. Aguglia was born in Cerda, Sicily. He lived in Italy until emigrating to the United States and settling in Niagara Falls in June 1950.
He had begun working as a carpenter in Italy in 1928 and continued with that trade here, working for various local contractors until retiring in 1978.
Mr. Aguglia enjoyed listening to opera and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, the former Frances Bernasconi; a son, Louis J. of Getzville; a brother, Angelo of Niagara Falls; a sister, Nunziata "Nancy" Morreale of Niagara Falls; and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. today in Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1055 N. Military Road. Entombment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
