Fred H. Stevens, of Amherst, a retired state employee, died Tuesday in Oakwood Health Care Center, Amherst. He was 91.

Born in Buffalo, he served in the Army during World War II as a radio repairman. He worked for 20 years as an elevator operator and security guard in the Mahoney State Office Building in Niagara Square. He retired in 1974.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving is his wife of 48 years, the former Annette Gusy.

Funeral services were private.
