Water service for the entire Town of Orchard Park will be managed by the Erie County Water Authority as of Monday, an authority spokesman announced Friday.
An agreement was reached with Districts 1, 4 and 8 to provide service to 1,600 new customers in the northern section of the town. The authority will manage all district operations, including customer service, billing and maintenance.
According to Robert A. Mendez, the Water Authority's executive director, average annual savings per customer will be $219 in District 1, where customers now pay $5 per 1,000 gallons versus the water authority's rate of $2.51 per thousand.
Orchard Park Supervisor Toni Cudney said that besides saving on water costs, the town is able to downsize its staff by more than two employees, resulting in annual savings estimated at $125,000.
