A benefit for Tommy Laufer, a 15-year old Hamburg boy with a rare kidney disease, will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday in Matthew Glab Post, American Legion, 2275 Abbott Road, Lackawanna.
Tommy, who was was born with autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease, needs a kidney transplant.
He already has undergone one transplant, which had to be removed six weeks later, as well as surgery for a graft and three more surgeries because the graft failed. On top of that, Tommy also undergoes dialysis three or four hours a day, three times a week.
Although Tommy's family does have health insurance, not all of their expenses are covered. Money raised at the $20-a-ticket benefit will help cover the costs of co-pays and extra expenses.
For information, call Tom or Carrie Laufer at 894-1707 or Sam or Mary Leone at 674-7554.
