The North Pole Limited train ride will be held Dec. 5 and 12. Departure is at 1:30 p.m. from the Depew Amtrak station for a bus ride to Niagara Falls and ride back with Santa and friends on the Amtrak train. The cost is $20 for adults and $15 for children between the ages of 2 and 15. Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling the Western New York Railway Historical Society at 662-7002.
The Amherst Skating Club is sponsoring Skates Around Amherst, a contest in which skates have been transformed into works of art by skaters and nonskaters for its 40th anniversary. The skates are on display at the Skaters Edge, 174 Plaza Drive, Williamsville, until Thursday. The skates will be raffled Nov. 13 and 14 during the Amherst Invitational Skating Competition in the Amherst Pepsi Center with the proceeds going to benefit Carly's Club.
Auditions for the Lancaster Regional Players production of "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)" will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the Lancaster Opera House, 21 Central Ave., Lancaster. The Kenan Center in Lockport is looking for children ages 5 to 18 to audition for roles in the Missoula Children's Theatre production of "The Jungle Book." Auditions will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, in the Kenan Arena, 195 Beattie Ave., Lockport. Approximately 50 to 60 children will be cast to appear in the show. Students wishing to audition should arrive by the scheduled starting time and plan to stay for the entire two-hour session. First rehearsal begins approximately 30 minutes after the auditions for those with key roles. It is a group audition. No advance preparation is necessary.
