Mary Covelli, a Carborundum Co. retiree, died Monday in Northgate Health Facility, Wheatfield. She was 95.
Born in Trabia, Province of Palermo, Sicily, she attended local schools there.
She had been a production worker at Carborundum for 28 years.
Her great love for fashion and jewelry earned her the nickname "Diamond Lil." She also loved to cook and knit.
Mrs. Covelli was a member of Power City Lodge 158, Italian Sons & Daughters of America, and was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
She was the widow of Michael Covelli.
Survivors include two sons, Eugene Tortorice of Niagara Falls and Frank Tortorice of Portland, Ore.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Prayers will be said at 9:45 a.m. Friday in Spallino-Amigone Funeral Home, 1300 Pine Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in St. Joseph's Church, 1413 Pine Ave. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
