Robert W. Symonds, a retired millwright, died Monday (Feb. 26, 2001) in Newfane Inter-Community Memorial Hospital. He was 88.

Born in the Town of Somerset, he served stateside in the Army Air Forces during World War II.

Symonds worked as a millwright for the Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors Corp. for 20 years before retiring in 1975.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, United Auto Workers 686 Retirees Club; Leo Dolan Post 410, American Legion; and Niagara Falls Lodge 346, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Dorothea; a stepdaughter, Kathleen Everett of Newfane; and four stepgrandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Faith Lutheran Church, 2730 Transit Road. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston.
