Russell F. Freund Sr., 78, a union official and Westinghouse Electric Corp. employee, died Saturday (Feb. 24, 2001) in his Depew home after a long illness.
Born in Buffalo, Freund graduated from Seneca Vocational High School. He served in the Army Air Forces in the Pacific during World War II.
He worked for Westinghouse until his retirement in 1965, then became an international representative for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, working with many local unions throughout the region.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lancaster and was a past member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Depew and Resurrection Lutheran Church in Buffalo.
Freund was also a life member and past commander of Red Jacket Post 3068, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of Millennium Lodge 1179, F&AM.
He is survived by his wife, the former Marie Hammonds; two sons, Russell F. Jr. of Depew and David A. of Cheektowaga; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. John's Lutheran Church, 55 Pleasant Ave., Lancaster.
