Alexander V. Allen, a retired office manager and a trustee of United Baptist Christian Church, died Monday (Feb. 26, 2001) in Fairchild Manor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was 82.
Allen was born in Niagara Falls, Ont., and lived for a time in Niagara Falls, N.Y., before moving to Lewiston in 1951.
He served in the Canadian army during World War II.
Allen worked for 26 years as the office manager for Dr. Cortland Van Dusen III's diagnostic X-ray practice in both his Niagara Falls and Lewiston offices. He retired in 1980.
He had been a member, trustee and treasurer of United Baptist Christian Church, formerly known as Lewiston Baptist Church, for 20 years. He had also been a member of the Retired Men's Service Club and Choir for many years and was a longtime Artpark volunteer.
Allen loved to play the piano.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Vera J. Elliott; a son, Richard A. of Liverpool; a daughter, Judith Lynn Meggs of Youngstown; a brother, Paul R. of Dunnville, Ont.; two sisters, Ruth Crayford of Hamilton, Ont., and Isabele Hurst of Niagara Falls, Ont.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Hardison Funeral Home, North Fourth and Ridge streets. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
