HERSHEY TIES AMERKS ON SPINNING BACKHANDER

Rob Shearer's spin-around backhander from the left of the slot beat screened goalie Mika Noronen in the second period to lift the Hershey Bears into a 2-2 tie with the Rochester Americans on Sunday.

Francois Methot scored twice in the first period as the Americans jumped to a 2-0 lead.

His first goal came on the power play at 6:23 as he swept in Norm Milley's rebound. He scored an unassisted short-handed goal 4:04 later, his 14th goal of the season.

Brian Willsie started the Bears' comeback at 9:31 of the second period when his screened shot from the right point zipped past Noronen's skates.

The tie enabled the Americans (31-18-6-4) to regain a seven-point lead over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the Mid-Atlantic Division of the American Hockey League.
