PUSH COMES TO SHOVE

Donald Audette got pushed around like a Girl Scout during the Sabres/Thrashers game at HSBC Arena. Audette has always been chippy, whiny, and one-dimensional, but no one would know that from Bob DiCesare's fawning profile of him from Feb. 15. Players need to do more than score around 25 goals to make a true impact on the NHL. Darcy Regier was bashed for standing up to players who make unreasonable contract demands. Unlike many general managers, Regier understands that giving into every player leads to spiraling costs; refusing to surrender excessive contracts, not a salary cap, is the sensible way to keep payroll down. Thankfully, Regier doesn't let others knock him around like how Audette got smacked all over the ice.
