Brandon Hunter had 33 points and 12 rebounds and scored all of the points in a 9-0 second-half surge as Ohio prevented Kent State from clinching a Mid-American Conference division title with a 69-63 victory on Saturday.
Kent State (19-8 overall, 12-4 league) could have locked up the East Division championship with a victory. The Golden Flashes were also trying to reach 20 victories three years in a row for the first time ever.
Ohio (16-9, 11-5) trailed, 35-34, at the break but took the lead for good when Hunter scored the first nine points of the second half. He hit a layup, two jumpers and a three-pointer to put the Bobcats ahead, 43-35, by the 16:50 mark.
The Golden Flashes, who trailed by as many as 13 points, pulled to within three at 66-63 on Trevor Huffman's three-pointer with 1:05 left.
But Kent State didn't score again. Anthony Jones made a foul shot with 36 seconds left and Hunter hit two with 24 seconds left.
Steve Esterkamp added 20 points for Ohio.
Andrew Mitchell scored 18 points for Kent State.
UMass tied for second
WASHINGTON -- Monty Mack scored 24 points to lead Massachusetts to a 64-56 victory over George Washington in an Atlantic 10 Conference game.
The Minutemen (13-12, 11-3) moved into a tie for second place with Xavier. The Colonials (12-15, 6-8), who were led by Chris Monroe's 22 points, dropped into seventh place.
Massachusetts, which has won nine of its last 11 games, brought its overall record above .500 for the first time since its season opener.

Chris Spatola's game-high 25 points and Dax Pearson's dunk with four seconds left helped Army (8-18, 3-9) earn a 78-75 shocker over Holy Cross (20-7, 10-2) in the Patriot League. Josh Sankes (St. Joe's) led Holy Cross with 23 points and 10 rebounds for his 13th double-double of the season.
Lynn Greer scored 26 points and Kevin Lyde added 12 points and 12 rebounds as Temple (16-12, 10-4) took a 70-62 A-10 win over Dayton (16-11, 7-7). Quincy Wadley had 12 points and David Hawkins 10 for Temple. Tony Stanley scored 19 points and David Morris added 13 points and seven assists for the Flyers.
Len Matela scored 20 points -- and hit two free throws to touch off a 9-3 run down the stretch -- as Bowling Green (13-11, 9-6) scored an 86-78 win over Akron (11-14, 8-8) in the MAC. Andre Sims, who came off the bench to make 6 of 9 three-pointers, scored 25 points for Akron.
Dave Hardy scored 16 points and Tim Sullivan and Mark Linebaugh each had 14 to lead Colgate (12-14, 6-6) to an 80-72 victory over Lafayette (12-14, 5-7) in the Patriot League. Pat Campolieta added 13 points for Colgate. Frank Barr scored a career-high 32 points for Lafayette.
Ime Archibong had 27 points to lead Yale (10-14, 7-4) to a 74-61 Ivy League win over Cornell (7-18, 3-9), despite 17 points by the Big Red's Ray Mercedes.
