Albert L. Soles, a former machinist who operated his own tool store from 1986 to 1990, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) in Roswell Park Cancer Institute after a brief illness. He was 63.
Soles, known as "Sonny," was born in Turtle Creek, Pa. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959, and during his hitch, he married Frederica Phippen on April 26, 1958, in San Diego.
Following his naval service, he moved to Newfane after living for a time in Kenmore.
He worked at the former Westinghouse plant in Buffalo for 26 years, followed by 13 years at E&R Machine in Lockport, from which he retired in February 1999.
From 1959 to 1976, Soles worked on the family fruit farm on Lake Road.
From 1986 to 1990, Soles was the owner-operator of Soles Mart Tools and Supplies in Newfane.
He was a parishioner of St. Bridget's Catholic Church and a past member of the Newfane Lions Club.
Soles enjoyed golf, bowling and motorcycles.
Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, David of Gasport and J.R. of Newfane; two daughters, Cheryl Keppler of Medina and Pamela DeMarco of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Ewings Road. Burial will be in Wrights Corners Cemetery.
