HALSTEAD INN IS TO COME DOWN TODAY

The Halstead Inn, a long-standing eyesore in the Village of Sloan that generated numerous complaints and legal action, was to be demolished today.

The former tavern, which had been condemned by the village after its owner refused to make repairs, was determined by court order to be "dangerous and a hazard" to neighboring residents.

The village is expected to pursue acquiring the property in a tax foreclosure proceeding, and then auction the property.

"We hope to sell it to an interested party who will maintain the property or possibly build a new home," Mayor Kenneth Pokorski said.
